Marshall meeting with Seahawks

Denver Broncos wide receiver Brandon Marshall is meeting with the Seattle Seahawks, who are hoping to reach an agreement on a contract with the star.

The Broncos would then be given the chance to match or exceed Seattle’s offer to retain his services. If not, he would become a Seahawk and Seattle would surrender its first round pick to Denver.

The Seahawks are in desperate need of a playmaking wide receiver, even more so now that Nate Burleson left to sign a big deal with the Detroit Lions.

Marshall has a lot of on and off-the-field baggage which has caused a lot of teams to back away from him even though he is one of the top wide receivers in the game.

The Seahawks are likely to spend much of their time meeting with Marshall discussing his problems and trying to gauge whether or not he could turn things around in Seattle.

Seahawks hire Carroll

The Seattle Seahawks have signed former USC Trojans head coach Pete Carroll as their new head coach.

It was a short coaching search for the Seahawks, who seemed poised to get Carroll from the start.

Carroll has had two previous stints in the NFL with the New York Jets and New England Patriots and had mixed results.

The coach had tremendous success at USC, and maybe staying on the West Coast will benefit him.

The team gave him a five-year contract worth $35 million, so he got a handsome raise from his college contract.

Seahawks fire Mora

The Seattle Seahawks have fired head coach Jim Mora after he spent just one season on the job.

Mora’s team completely flopped down the stretch, which was probably a big reason why they fired him.

The head coach criticized his team numerous times in the last two months, but didn’t seem to get much of a response.

Injuries were partly responsible for the team’s struggles, but so was coaching and a lack of effort.

The Seahawks will now begin a coaching search that has no real obvious candidates at this time.

Seahawks fall to Titans, 17-13

The Seattle Seahawks blew a rare fourth-quarter lead in a 17-13 home loss to the Tennessee Titans.

The Seahawks also found their way into the record books, but certainly not in a good way.

The team gave up 136 yards rushing to Chris Johnson, which made him the sixth running back in league history to run for over 2,000 yards in a single season.

The loss puts an end to what has been a disastrous season for the Seahawks after a promising start.

I can guarantee that head coach Jim Mora is fuming over the lack of effort down the stretch and will make a number of changes in the offseason.

Seahawks routed by Packers, 38-10

The Seattle Seahawks turned in perhaps their lamest performance of the year in a 38-10 loss to the Green Bay Packers.

The Seahawks managed just a field goal in the first half and did not score their only touchdown until the fourth quarter.

They also surrendered double-digit points in each of the four quarters, which is an example of when consistency can actually be a bad thing.

Maybe it was the cold weather up in Green Bay, but the Seahawks did not look like a team interested in playing football.

Head coach Jim Mora has to be beside himself with the kind of effort he is getting from his players.

Seahawks embarassed by Bucs, 24-7

The Seattle Seahawks have had some disappointing losses this year, but none will likely go down as bad as their 24-7 home defeat to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Head coach Jim Mora has bashed his team in recent weeks for gaining a reputation around the NFL as being soft.

Mora pledged that the coaching staff would quickly find out a lot about different players on the team in the final few games.

I can only imagine what he might have to say when asked about this debacle. Giving up 24 points to the Bucs and putting just a touchdown on the board is beyond pathetic.

About the only bright spot was tight end John Carlson, who finished with 86 yards and a touchdown.

Seahawks routed by Texans, 34-7

The Seattle Seahawks fell behind early and could never recover in a 34-7 loss to the Houston Texans.

Seattle had absolutely no answer for the Matt Schaub to Andre Johnson connection, which terrorized them throughout the game.

Johnson had nearly 200 yards receiving and two touchdowns while Schaub found the end zone three times.

The offense also had no answer in a game where they knew they would have to put up a lot of points to have a chance to win.

It was the type of loss that will anger head coach Jim Mora, who recently accused his own team of being soft.

Seahawks edge 49ers, 20-17

The Seattle Seahawks didn’t make it easy, but they hung on for a 20-17 win over the San Francisco 49ers.

Quarterback Matt Hasselback led the Seahawks with nearly 200 yards passing and two touchdowns.

Wide receiver Deion Branch managed to catch one of the touchdown passes, so apparently he still has a pulse after all.

Running back Julius Jones made his return to the lineup and led the team in rushing with 67 yards on 20 carries.

The Seahawks are still hanging somewhat around the NFC wild card race, but are a very long shot to get in.

Seahawks Withstand QB Smith’s Career Day, Win 17-14 on Last-Second FG

With RB Frank Gore complaining about his reduced role in Mike Singletary’s offense, the Seahawks feared retribution from Gore, as the Niners ran for nearly 300 yards earlier this season in their first meeting with the Seahawks.

Instead, the Seahawks had to stomach Niners QB Alex Smith’s career passing day, as he threw for 310 yards and two touchdowns, but the ‘Hawks escaped with the 17-14 win after Olindo Mare kicked a 30-yard field goal as time expired.

“It’s a load off when they take care of one of our problems for us. It was … beautiful,” Seattle rookie outside linebacker Aaron Curry said.

Gore, who ran for 202 yards in the first meeting against the Seahawks, was limited to nine carries for 25 yards on Sunday.

“Any time you play a team that rushes for almost 300 yards, why not do that again — or at least attempt to?” Curry said.

Seahawks coach Jim Mora said of Gore: “I’m glad he didn’t have the ball more.”

Instead, the ‘Hawks got to watch QB Matt Hasselbeck go to work – after not throwing a touchdown in the Seahawks’ last two games, Hasselbeck threw two on Sunday.

The Hawks and Niners moved to 5-7 on the season, likely crushing both teams’ playoff hopes. They’re both three games behind the Philadelphia Eagles for the NFC’s Wild Card spots.

Seahawks GM Tim Ruskell Steps Down

The Seattle Seahawks announced that general manager Tim Ruskell would be stepping down at a news conference on Thursday.

“Obviously there’s great sadness today but I will leave here with great memories of this place and the people. It’s been the people for me,” Ruskell said.

Ruskell, in the final year of a five-year contract, recognized the Seahawks’ reluctance to commit to him for the long-term, and decided to make it easier on everyone by stepping down now.

“We were getting ready to go into those meetings about free agency and the offseason,” Ruskell said. “If I am not going to spearhead those meetings and it wasn’t going to happen no matter what our record was, you become a lame duck. And I did not want that.”

Ruskell arrived before the 2005 season, a year in which the Seahawks rallied around Matt Hasselbeck to make a trip to the franchise’s only trip to the Super Bowl ever.

But the Seahawks have fallen by the wayside as of late, with an 8-19 record since the beginning of last season. With coach Mike Holmgren retiring from the team last year and being replaced by former Falcons coach, Jim Mora Jr., the Seahawks decided to make even more changes in the administration.
