Spencer injures knee

The Seattle Seahawks are waiting to hear how long they will be without center Chris Spencer after he suffered a leg injury in a preseason game against the Denver Broncos.

He injured his left quadriceps muscle in the second quarter and was taken off the field on a motorized cart, which is always scary.

Head coach Jim Mora said after the game that Spencer’s injury was by far the most serious and categorized most of the others as bruises.

The offensive line is already an area of concern for the Seahawks because of the pending surgery for left tackle Walter Jones.

Seahawks sign James

After rumors of a deal, the Seattle Seahawks have confirmed signing veteran running back Edgerrin James to a one-year contract.

It has become blatantly clear that the team is not enamored with its current backfield of Julius Jones and T.J. Duckett.

Jones has been a disappointment much the way he was in Dallas while Duckett is almost exclusively a short yardage back.

To make room for Jones, the team surprisingly released Duckett, who led the team with eight touchdowns last season.

Second year back Justin Forsett is expected to see increased action as he continues to develop.

Curry excited by NFL debut

Seattle Seahawks rookie linebacker Aaron Curry said he was wowed by his first game in the NFL.

It was only a preseason game, but Curry said he was shaking and extremely nervous for the kickoff.

Curry said he realized how big the stage was when Shawne Merriman came out and pushed the volume up a few notches.

Merriman then looked to catch up with Curry after the game, surprising the linebacker. Curry said he couldn’t believe Merriman even knew who he was.

Seahawks sign Curry

The Seattle Seahawks have signed linebacker Aaron Curry to a contract worth as much as $60 million.

It is the richest rookie contract given to any non-quarterback and guarantees him at least $34 million.

Curry was considered by many to be the best overall player in the NFL Draft but slipped from the top because of concerns about his pass-rushing skills.

He was an absolute stud at Wake Forest and the Seahawks believe he has the ability to get after the quarterback.

Staying healthy the key for Seattle

There is no questioning the talent on the Seattle Seahawks roster, only whether or not it can manage to remain on the field.

Saying that injuries decimated the team’s roster last year would actually be a gross understatement.

The wide receiver position lost five guys before the start of the season, leaving the team with very few passing options.

Add to that a knee and back injury that forced quarterback Matt Hasselback to the sidelines for several games and you have a recipe for disaster on the offensive side of the ball.
