The Seattle Seahawks have signed former USC Trojans head coach Pete Carroll as their new head coach.
It was a short coaching search for the Seahawks, who seemed poised to get Carroll from the start.
Carroll has had two previous stints in the NFL with the New York Jets and New England Patriots and had mixed results.
The coach had tremendous success at USC, and maybe staying on the West Coast will benefit him.
The team gave him a five-year contract worth $35 million, so he got a handsome raise from his college contract.

The Seattle Seahawks have fired head coach Jim Mora after he spent just one season on the job.
Mora’s team completely flopped down the stretch, which was probably a big reason why they fired him.
The head coach criticized his team numerous times in the last two months, but didn’t seem to get much of a response.
Injuries were partly responsible for the team’s struggles, but so was coaching and a lack of effort.
The Seahawks will now begin a coaching search that has no real obvious candidates at this time.
The Seattle Seahawks blew a rare fourth-quarter lead in a 17-13 home loss to the Tennessee Titans.
The Seahawks also found their way into the record books, but certainly not in a good way.
The team gave up 136 yards rushing to Chris Johnson, which made him the sixth running back in league history to run for over 2,000 yards in a single season.
The loss puts an end to what has been a disastrous season for the Seahawks after a promising start.
I can guarantee that head coach Jim Mora is fuming over the lack of effort down the stretch and will make a number of changes in the offseason.

The Seattle Seahawks turned in perhaps their lamest performance of the year in a 38-10 loss to the Green Bay Packers.
The Seahawks managed just a field goal in the first half and did not score their only touchdown until the fourth quarter.
They also surrendered double-digit points in each of the four quarters, which is an example of when consistency can actually be a bad thing.
Maybe it was the cold weather up in Green Bay, but the Seahawks did not look like a team interested in playing football.
Head coach Jim Mora has to be beside himself with the kind of effort he is getting from his players.
